ElevenLabs Voice Library: Find Voices and Earn Payouts
The ElevenLabs voice library is a shared catalog of thousands of community and studio voices that any ElevenLabs user can browse, preview and use for text to speech. It also works in reverse: owners of a Professional Voice Clone can publish their voice, earn payouts when paid users generate audio with it, and collect money through Stripe Connect once they pass the payout threshold.
Last updated: October 2026. Plans and credit costs checked against ElevenLabs’ official pricing page.
What is the ElevenLabs voice library?
The ElevenLabs voice library is a searchable marketplace of voices shared by ElevenLabs and its community, built into the same dashboard you use for text to speech. Users pick a voice, preview it, and generate audio with it at the normal credit cost, while voice owners earn when paid users choose their voice.
Official pages give conflicting totals, so think of it as thousands of voices. For the wider product picture, the full ElevenLabs review covers every tool in the suite.

In short, the library is both a voice source for creators and an income channel for voice owners.
How do you search and filter voices in the library?
Searching the Voice Library means combining a keyword or voice ID with filters that narrow thousands of voices to a short list. According to ElevenLabs’ docs, you can also upload or drag in an audio clip to find that voice or similar ones, which helps when a client sends a reference sample.
The documentation lists five main ways to narrow the catalog:
- Keyword and ID search: Typing a name, descriptive keyword or exact voice ID returns matching voices, which is the fastest route when a teammate already shared a specific voice.
- Audio sample search: Uploading or dragging in a recording surfaces the original voice or close matches, useful for matching a reference read supplied by a client or producer.
- Sort order: Results can be sorted by Trending, Latest, Most users or Character usage, which separates proven narration voices from brand new uploads awaiting traction.
- Language and accent filters: Choosing a language first unlocks the accent filter, so a creator can target a specific regional sound instead of a generic English or Spanish read.
- Quality and notice period filters: A Studio Quality filter limits results to higher grade voices, while the notice period filter favors voices whose owners promise continued access after withdrawal.
Language plus accent plus sort order usually does most of the work, and the audio sample search covers the rest.
Saving library voices to My Voices
Saving a library voice adds it to My Voices so it appears in every voice selection menu across text to speech, Studio and other tools. ElevenLabs’ docs say you can also use a library voice without saving it, and saved library voices do not consume the custom voice slots your plan includes.
Slots are used by your own clones and designed voices, and they scale by plan:
| Plan | Monthly price | Custom voices | Professional Voice Clones | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 | 0 | 10,000 |
| Starter | $6 | 10 | 0 | 30,000 |
| Creator | $22 | 30 | 1 | 121,000 |
| Pro | $99 | 160 | 1 | 600,000 |
| Scale | $299 | 660 | 3 | 1,800,000 |
| Business | $990 | 2,200 | 10 | 6,000,000 |

Because saved library voices sit outside these limits, a Free or Starter user can keep a large shortlist of library voices without running out of slots.

What does a library voice cost to use?
A library voice costs the same as any other voice in text to speech: credits are charged per character of input text, at about 1 credit per character on Multilingual v2 and 0.5 to 1 credit per character on Flash and Turbo models. Choosing a library voice does not add a separate fee in most cases.
The exception: some older shared voices carry legacy credit multipliers that raise generation cost, an option no longer offered for newly shared voices.
A worked example helps. Using the approximation of roughly 1,000 characters per minute of speech, a 10-minute narration is about 10,000 characters, or about 10,000 credits on Multilingual v2. That is the entire Free plan allowance for one month, or a third of Starter’s 30,000 credits. The ElevenLabs credits guide breaks down rollover and per-product costs in more detail.
For most voices, the real cost driver is script length and model choice, not which library voice you pick.
Can you use library voices commercially?
Commercial use of library voices depends on your ElevenLabs plan rather than the voice itself: the Terms of Use limit free use to non-commercial purposes, and the pricing page lists a commercial license starting with the Starter plan. Paid users can therefore publish monetized content made with library voices.
Five licensing points come up most often:
- Free plan restriction: Audio generated free of charge may only be used for non-commercial purposes under the Terms of Use, which rules out monetized videos, ads and client work.
- Starter commercial license: The Starter plan at $6 a month is the first tier that lists a commercial license, so it is the minimum for any revenue-generating project.
- Output ownership: The Terms say users retain all rights in and to their output, which covers audio generated with a library voice under an eligible plan.
- Owner restrictions: Voice owners can exclude free-tier users from adding their voice, so a voice visible in search may still be unavailable to Free accounts.
- Notice period exposure: If an owner withdraws a voice, access continues only for the notice period, which affects long series that depend on one consistent narrator.
The ElevenLabs commercial use guide covers YouTube monetization and client work in more depth. In short, plan tier, not voice choice, decides whether output can earn money.
Who can share a voice to the library?
Sharing a voice to the ElevenLabs voice library is limited to Professional Voice Clones, which require the Creator plan or higher. Instant Voice Clones and voices made with Voice Design cannot be published publicly, so a Free or Starter account can use library voices but cannot list one for payouts.
Five requirements stand between a recording and a published, earning voice:
- Creator plan or higher: Professional Voice Cloning starts on Creator at $22 a month with one clone slot, rising to three on Scale and ten on Business.
- Enough training audio: ElevenLabs recommends a bare minimum of 30 minutes of clean audio and suggests closer to 2 to 3 hours for the strongest professional clone.
- Voice verification: Every Professional Voice Clone must pass a verification step confirming the voice belongs to the account owner, with a 24-hour wait after repeated failures.
- Accurate name and description: Library names follow naming guidelines, and the docs warn that voices with misleading or spammy descriptions will not be approved for publication.
- Team review: Each submission is reviewed by the ElevenLabs team and may be declined, and the docs give no estimated review time for new voices.
For the difference between instant and professional clones, see the ElevenLabs instant vs professional voice cloning comparison. The Creator plan plus a verified professional clone is the entry ticket to sharing.
How to publish your voice to the library
Publishing a voice is a short process once a verified Professional Voice Clone exists: you open the voice’s More actions menu, choose Publish to Library, fill in the listing details and submit it for review. The work is mostly front-loaded in recording quality, because the clone you train is the product buyers hear.
- Record clean training audio: A quiet room, consistent microphone distance and one speaking style produce a clone that previews well, aiming for at least 30 minutes of usable speech.
- Create and verify the clone: Uploading the audio as a Professional Voice Clone triggers the verification captcha, which confirms the speaker before training finishes and the voice becomes usable.
- Choose Publish to Library: The More actions menu on the voice card holds the publish option, which opens a form for listing details, labels and sharing settings.
- Write the listing: A specific name under the character limit, honest labels and a description that states accent, tone and best use case help the voice pass review.
- Set sharing controls: Owners pick a notice period, decide on Live Moderation, add an optional custom preview clip and may exclude free-tier users from adding the voice.
Once submitted, the voice waits for review, and approved voices appear in search for other users. A strong preview clip and accurate labels do more for discovery than any later tweak.
How do voice library payouts work?
Voice library payouts are earnings paid to voice owners when other people generate audio with their shared voice. ElevenLabs states that earnings are calculated based on usage by paid users and exclude use by free users, so only paying customers’ generations count toward income.
The default rate is tied to the selected notice period, and exact rates are not published, so income projections are guesswork until a voice has real usage.
Payouts reward voices that paid users actually choose, which makes demand, not listing count, the variable that matters.
Stripe Connect, threshold and payout schedule
ElevenLabs pays voice owners through Stripe Connect, which handles identity checks and bank transfers but is not available in every country. A paid ElevenLabs subscription is not required to receive payouts, so an owner can downgrade later and still collect earnings from a voice already in the library.
| Payout detail | What ElevenLabs states |
|---|---|
| Payment provider | Stripe Connect, not available in every country |
| Minimum payout threshold | $10 in most cases, higher in some countries |
| Payout schedule | Processed automatically every 6 to 8 days |
| What counts as earnings | Usage by paid users only, free users excluded |
| Subscription needed to get paid | No, payouts do not require a paid plan |
| Earning rate | Set by the selected notice period, exact rates not published |

The table shows a low barrier to getting paid, a fast schedule and one big unknown: the rate itself.
Notice periods and removing a voice
A notice period is the length of time users who already saved or used a voice keep access after its owner stops sharing it. ElevenLabs’ library guide describes a range from 30 days to 2 years, while the payouts article describes options from immediate removal up to two years.
For creators building a long series, a long notice period is insurance against a narrator vanishing mid-season.

That definition is why consent and verification matter so much in a public voice marketplace. The guide to AI voice cloning and its legality covers the legal side. For buyers, a long notice period is the simplest protection against losing a voice.
Is earning from the voice library worth it?
Earning from the voice library is worth trying for anyone already paying for Creator, because sharing an existing Professional Voice Clone costs nothing extra. It is a weaker reason to upgrade on its own, since ElevenLabs publishes no rates and income depends entirely on paid users picking your voice among thousands.
Five factors decide whether a shared voice earns anything meaningful:
- Distinctive sound: A voice that fills a gap, such as an uncommon accent or a specific character type, competes against fewer alternatives than a generic narrator read.
- Training audio quality: Clean, consistent recordings close to the recommended 2 to 3 hours produce clones that preview well and keep buyers through long projects.
- Honest listing details: Accurate labels and descriptions put the voice in front of the right filters, while misleading descriptions risk rejection during the team review stage.
- Notice period choice: The selected notice period sets the default rate and also reassures buyers who need a voice to remain available across an entire series.
- Free-tier exclusion setting: Since free usage never earns, excluding free-tier users can reserve the voice for paying customers, at the cost of reduced visibility and word of mouth.
The Voice Library is a bonus income stream for Creator users, not a reason to upgrade on its own.

Voice library, Voice Design or a clone: which fits?
The Voice Library, Voice Design and voice cloning are three different sources for the voice you generate with. The library is fastest because the voice already exists, Voice Design creates a new synthetic voice from a text description, and cloning reproduces a real person’s voice with their consent.
| Source | How it works | Uses a custom voice slot? | Can be shared publicly? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voice Library | Pick an existing shared voice | No | Already public | Fast projects, testing styles |
| Voice Design | Generate a voice from a text prompt | Yes | No | Unique fictional characters |
| Instant Voice Clone | Clone from a short sample, Starter and up | Yes | No | Your own voice, quickly |
| Professional Voice Clone | Train on long audio, Creator and up | Yes | Yes, after review | Brand voice, library payouts |
Only the professional clone can both serve as a personal brand voice and earn library payouts. For prompt-based voices, see the ElevenLabs Voice Design tutorial; for your own voice, the step-by-step AI voice cloning guide walks through recording.
Start with the library, and move to design or cloning only when no shared voice fits.
Bottom line on the ElevenLabs voice library
The ElevenLabs voice library is one of the strongest reasons to use the platform: thousands of voices, useful filters and no custom slot cost for saved voices. For voice owners on Creator or higher, sharing a verified professional clone adds a payout channel with a low $10 threshold and a fast schedule.
Free users can browse and generate non-commercially, Starter unlocks commercial use, and Creator unlocks sharing. Pricing details for every tier live in the ElevenLabs pricing breakdown.

Frequently asked questions
The 12 most-asked questions about the ElevenLabs voice library.
How many voices are in the ElevenLabs voice library?
ElevenLabs’ own pages give different totals for the Voice Library, so the safest description is thousands of voices across many languages, accents and styles. The catalog changes constantly as owners publish and withdraw voices, which is why filters, sort options and handpicked collections matter more than the headline number when choosing a voice.
Do saved library voices use custom voice slots?
No. According to ElevenLabs’ Voice Library docs, voices saved from the library do not use custom voice slots. Slots are consumed by your own clones and Voice Design voices, so even a Free account with 3 custom voices can keep a long list of saved library voices available in every voice menu.
Can I use Voice Library voices on the free plan?
Yes, Free users can browse and generate audio with most library voices using the 10,000 monthly credits. The Terms limit free use to non-commercial purposes, though, and some owners exclude free-tier users from adding their voice, so a few voices may not be available until you upgrade to a paid plan.
Can I use library voices for monetized YouTube videos?
Yes, on a paid plan. The pricing page lists a commercial license from the Starter plan at $6 a month, and the Terms say you retain all rights in your output. Free plan audio is restricted to non-commercial use, so monetized videos need at least Starter before you publish them.
Which voices can be shared to the library?
Only Professional Voice Clones can be published to the Voice Library. Instant Voice Clones and Voice Design voices cannot be shared publicly. Professional Voice Cloning starts on the Creator plan at $22 a month, requires verification that the voice belongs to you, and each submission is reviewed and may be declined.
How much do voice owners earn from the library?
ElevenLabs does not publish exact payout rates. Earnings are calculated from usage by paid users only, and the default rate is determined by the notice period the owner selects. Income therefore depends on how often paying customers pick the voice, which makes realistic forecasts impossible before a voice has real usage.
What is the minimum payout for the Voice Library?
ElevenLabs says the payout threshold is $10 in most cases, though it can be higher in some countries. Payouts are processed automatically every 6 to 8 days through Stripe Connect once the balance passes the threshold, and owners do not need an active paid subscription to receive them.
What happens if a voice owner removes their voice?
Users who already saved or used the voice keep access for the notice period the owner chose. ElevenLabs’ library guide describes notice periods from 30 days to 2 years, while voices shared without a notice period can be removed immediately. Long projects are safer with voices that carry a long notice period.
Do library voices cost more credits than default voices?
Usually not. Text to speech costs about 1 credit per character on Multilingual v2 regardless of the voice. The exception is some older shared voices with legacy credit multipliers, which raise generation cost. ElevenLabs says these custom rates are no longer available for newly shared voices, so check older voice cards first.
Is Stripe Connect required to get Voice Library payouts?
Yes. ElevenLabs pays voice owners through Stripe Connect, which handles verification and bank transfers. Stripe Connect is not available in every country, so owners in unsupported countries should confirm eligibility before investing time in recording hours of training audio for a Professional Voice Clone they plan to share.
How long does Voice Library review take?
ElevenLabs’ docs say every submission is reviewed by the team and may be declined, but they give no estimated review time. Accurate names, honest labels and a clear description of accent, tone and use case reduce the risk of rejection, because misleading or spammy descriptions are explicitly listed as a reason voices are not approved.
Should I upgrade to Creator just to earn from the library?
Usually not as the only reason. Creator costs $22 a month and payout rates are not published, so income is uncertain. If you already need Creator for its 121,000 credits, higher audio quality or a professional clone of your own voice, sharing that clone is a sensible free extra on top.
